Liverpool Reserves surged six points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier Reserve League North following a thumping 4-1 triumph over Hull City on Tuesday night.
John McMahon's men were always in control against the Tigers and extended their winning run to eight matches courtesy of goals from David Amoo (2), Nathan Eccleston and Nikola Saric.
It means the second-string have increased their advantage over second-placed Manchester United at the summit, although the Red Devils can cut the lead back down to three points if they win their game in hand.
On a cold evening at Prenton Park, the Reds were quickly into their stride and almost got off to the perfect start when Steven Irwin crashed a thunderous 25 yard shot inches over the crossbar.
It set the tone for the remainder of the match, with Dani Pacheco and Amoo particularly impressive as Liverpool launched wave after wave of attack on an overworked Hull defence.
A cute pass by Eccleston gave Saric the chance to open the scoring as early as the 10th minutes but the Dane failed to take the ball in his stride and the chance went begging.
Eccleston was brimming with the confidence you would expect of a player who has tasted first-team action recently and he looked dangerous throughout.
The 18-year-old's close control is a feature of his game and it was his turn to cause panic in the visitors' defence soon after, but the referee waved away his penalty appeals after some fine skill on the left had ended with him taking a tumble in the area.
Half an hour played and there had been very little sign of Hull as an attacking threat.
It was simply a matter of time until McMahon's men made their dominance count and after Eccleston had headed just wide, they finally took a deserved lead on 25 minutes.
Alex Kacaniklic found space on the left wing and teased his way to the byline before cutting the ball back for Amoo to steer a low shot into the bottom corner.
The scoreboard may have finally reflected Liverpool's dominance but they were not content to rest on their laurels. Eccleston went close with a sweet drive before Pacheco stung the fingertips of Mark Oxley from distance.
As the half-time whistle blew the home side could and should have been out of sight but they continued where they left off after the restart and didn't have long to wait for a second.
A jinking run by Pacheco took him to the byline before he delivered an inch perfect cross for Eccleston to side foot home on 47 minutes.
Hull heads inevitably dropped and just four minutes later the Reds were three goals to the good.
A typically powerful run by Amoo took him beyond the full-back before he showed great awareness to clip a cross into the path of Saric, who duly obliged from eight yards out.
At this point it looked like being a case of how many and Pacheco almost capped a fine performance with a goal, but his 25 yarder cannoned back off the post.
The Spaniard was revelling in the space the Hull midfield were allowing him and it was no surprise when his run and cross led to a fourth on 75 minutes. Amoo was the beneficiary, smashing home the rebound after Oxley had denied his initial effort with a sensational stop from point-blank range.
The young winger almost grabbed is hat-trick with nine minutes left but saw his low shot from a tight angle blocked by Oxley's legs.
The Reds continued to probe for more goals in the dying moments, and although Amoo wasted another chance for his treble, it was the visitors who snatched a flattering consolation when Tom Cairney slotted home from the penalty spot.
