Work began on a stand that would become famous throughout the world on this day in 1906.

The Reds had just claimed a second First Division title of their short history, and in order to accommodate their growing support they set about building a new structure.
The Kop began life as a tinder bank, with Liverpool Echo journalist Ernest Edwards the man responsible for comparing it to the Spion Kop, the site of the famous Boer War battle.
Elsewhere on this day in LFC history, Rafael Benitez signed Welsh international Craig Bellamy from Blackburn Rovers in 2006.
