Kenny Dalglish today put on record his support for the appointment of Roy Hodgson as Liverpool manager.
Dalglish was charged with conducting the search for a new boss along with Christian Purslow following Rafael Benitez's departure last month.
And though he initially threw his own name into the hat, the legendary Scot was never considered a candidate by the Anfield board.
It was revealed by Chairman Martin Broughton on Thursday that, following a rigorous interview process, Dalglish had recommended Hodgson be appointed.
Now the man himself has made public his backing for the former Fulham chief.
"I look very favourably on the appointment," Dalglish declared.
"I have known Roy a long time and have a great respect for him.
"We've not had detailed conversations yet but my interests are in Liverpool."
Discussions are set to take place between Hodgson and Dalglish about building upon the latter's role as club ambassador.
Hodgson said: "I respect the fact that Kenny was entitled to suggest to the board that he wanted to be considered, and it won't affect my relationship with him at all.
"I believe Kenny can make the perfect bridge with his football knowledge between the Academy and the training ground, and we should never forget the very important role he will always do as an ambassador.
"As I see it, when you have a resource like Kenny Dalglish, it's better to use it properly and have him at the club for the long term, maybe 15 years like Sir Bobby Charlton has been at Manchester United.
"There are so many roles that he can play to help Liverpool FC - and that will outlive my tenure at the club."
