Liverpool trio Steven Gerrard. Jamie Carragher and Glen Johnson were unable to help England to a first World Cup 2010 victory after a frustrating goalless draw with Algeria in Cape Town.
All three Reds' stars completed all 90 minutes of the clash in South Africa as Fabio Capello's men laboured to a scoreless draw which leaves their chances of qualifiying for the knock-out stages of the World Cup in the balance.
Victory over Slovenia on Wednesday will still give England a place in the last sixteen of the competition, but they'll have to do so without Carragher who will be sidelined after collecting his second yellow card of the tournament.
England never got out of first gear during a hugely disappointing display which will leave many questioning their ability to bring the trophy back to these shores for the first time since 1966.
Despite the first half promptings from skipper Gerrard - who registered one of only a couple of efforts on goal in the opening period with a well struck drive which was comfortably saved - England failed to seriously trouble an Algerian defence who grew in confidence with every passing minute.
Gerrard again went close in the second period with a downward header which goalkeeper M'Bolhi did well to keep out, but it was a rare flash of excitement in a dull fixture which won't live long in the memory.
Here's a selection of snaps of our boys in action for England on Friday evening.
