Roy Hodgson believes the manner of Liverpool's 2-0 victory over FK Rabotnicki proves the squad has the quality to sustain challenges for top honours this season.
A youthful Reds contingent secured a 2-0 victory in the first leg of the Europa League third qualifying round tie in Skopje on Thursday evening, without the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Fernando Torres, Pepe Reina, Dirk Kuyt and new signing Joe Cole.
And Hodgson feels the performance shows the importance of keeping a settled squad - although the manager admits he is still looking to add to his charges.
"I don't think I've ever said the squad is in need of a major overhaul," said the boss. "We need to add one or two players to the team.
"It is important we keep the nucleus from last season and a nucleus of players who are maybe just behind the first team."
