Scott Carson is an England international goalkeeper with a big future ahead of him.
Rafa Benitez beat a host of clubs, including Chelsea, to the signature of one of the country's brightest talents from Leeds United in January 2005.
Leeds had recruited Carson to their academy three years earlier after spotting him playing for non-league Workington in the FA Youth Cup.
However, he went on to play just three times for the Elland Road side, though one of these was a full debut at Old Trafford.
The youngster donned a Liverpool jersey for the first time against Newcastle United on March 5, 2005. A month later he featured in a Champions League quarter-final against Juventus.
In March 2006 Carson was loaned to Sheffield Wednesday, where he played nine times and helped The Owls avoid relegation.
With opportunities at Liverpool limited, the entire 2006-07 season was spent at Premiership strugglers Charlton Athletic. The club were relegated, though Carson was named their player of the year.
Still, the likelihood was he'd remain behind Pepe Reina in the Anfield pecking order should he return to Merseyside.
With this in mind, he was allowed by Benitez to seek another loan in order to gain vital first-team experience. There was no shortage of suitors but Martin O'Neill's Aston Villa won the day.
Carson made 36 appearances at Villa Park before returning to Melwood in the summer of 2008.
His short career has seen him shatter Jamie Carragher's record for most England Under-21 caps, reaching 29 before finally making his senior breakthrough.
Having already been named in Sven Goran Eriksson's squad for the 2006 World Cup, the stopper was handed a full debut by Steve McClaren in a 1-0 friendly win over Austria on November 16, 2007.
Five days later, with regular number one Paul Robinson out of form, he was thrown in at the deep end in a make or break Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia. Sadly, Carson's competitive debut ended in misery as England slumped to a 3-2 defeat.
